ABOUT

With over 30 years experience Alan has gardening in his blood, gaining his qualifications from Pershore college and becoming a member of the Guild of Advanced Craftsman, and completing his degree at Birmingham University. His early training was as a plantsman based in the Netherlands for over 2years before moving to work as gardener at the Garden of Versailles in France.

Alan returned to the UK and continued as plantsman at a one of the largest nurseries in the Uk. But wanting to develop his horticultural knowledge and experience, took a position as a gardener at a local stately home (Spetchley Park). It was there that his interest in Water Gardens and natural stonework developed along with an urge to be able learn to design and build his own gardens, he left to join 2 renowned Landscape companies which provided him with the opportunity to work with 2 hugely experienced and accomplished designers, whom offered completely different styles in design. During this time Alan honed his skills, not only in design, but also in the hands on construction of the gardens and water features, and trained in all aspects of garden landscape construction.

Having designed and been the lead contractor on over 10 medal winning show gardens, inclduing 5 RHS medal gardens, the time came to go at it alone and Alan left to start up his business. That was over 12 years ago and here we are today, with a small team of skilled experienced people who are all committed to producing outstanding gardens for our clients to enjoy for many years to come.

Alan has now been the plantsman or lead contractor on over 20 medal winnings gardens, working with many established or upcoming Garden designers and is keen to continue working with new designers looking to take on their first show. Being able to offer a huge amount of experience into the whole process from design to build and to breakdown.

Iris Gardens believes in working with and supporting businesses and companies from the 3 counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, therefore we will always look to local companies for our supplies and where possible use only local materials such as Forest of Dean or Malvern stone or Hereford oak Timber. Our company is also keen to work with local artists and can source original pieces of commissioned artwork made specifically for your garden.

Here at Iris Gardens we are passionate about recycling where possbile. All green waste that we remove is stored and composted and eventually reused as a soil conditioner in the gardens that we create, we look to use reclaimed materials where design allows and reduce the amount we dispose of in landfill.
